A Type B Mk 2 desk in C21 in 1972 . These desks were
installed at the end of the 1950s and served us well until programmes
became more complicated. The main problem was that the channels were a
bit noisy, as all line-level sources were padded down to microphone
level for plugging to any channel, where they were then amplified
again. The Mk 2 added two groups to which channels could be selected
and was much more flexible than the Mk 1. The original design of the
desk has been modified to include tape remote starts (to the right of
the meter) and the two outrigger units, the left for tape monitoring
and the right for the automated pre-transmission test.
