Look, no wires


A friend with whom I correspond using good old-fashioned snail-mail is technically minded, but not up-to-date: so when I said I had a wireless network he asked me to explain it, and asked a number of questions, particularly about the security of a network.

I though the answer I wrote might be interesting to other people, so I have reworked it as a technical note. It's written in reasonably non-technical terms; if you have a wireless network and have never taken any steps to secure it against intruders you really should read this.
