Royal Albert Hall

Though this photo goes with the entry about my visit to the Royal Albert Hall on October 27th, it was actually taken before the concert on September 15th (on October 27th it was dark by the time I got to the hall). The statue on the left is part of the surround for the Albert Memorial.

The hall is a huge venue: it had notoriously bad acoustics until special treatment was installed in 1969, principally consisting of huge 'mushrooms' suspended from the dome. There is a Wikipedia article giving a detailed history.
