When Julie Andrews resolved a BBC strikenother
BBC staff strike is being balloted for, and at Christmas too (though actually if
it takes place it won't be until January). I remember when we threatened a
strike at Christmas 1978. As it happened, this was the first time The Sound of Music was due to be shown on
British television (Christmas Day on BBC1). Whether the management panicked at
the prospect of the flood of complaints if it wasn't shown I don't know; but I
do remember that, unusually, we got the pay rise we wanted, and pretty quickly.
Thank you, Julie.
