DISC-CUTTING IN THE SUBURBS



Here are some more photos of Peter Copeland's early disc-cutting set-up:





The contraption above is a home-made variable-groove-spacing disc-cutter (which closes up the groove spacing in the quiet sections to increase the playing time). The left-hand of the two Ferrographs below is used control the speed of the lead screw according to the recorded level, acting slightly more than one groove ahead of the actual sound, which is taken from the second Ferrograph.
