This photo was taken
in Shanklin
Village, Isle Of Wight, in about 1924 by either my grandfather or my
mother - probably the latter, since it was taken on a cheap box camera
rather than my grandfather's nice plate camera. This is probably the
same box camera I used as a child in the 1950s - literally box-shaped,
and very limited (and, as you can see, with none too good a lens). The
photo gives a nostalgic glimpse into the 1920s: and you can see a
modern shot from the about same position on this
web page.
